Motorola Xoom 3G breaking free!

So, to all of you who tired waiting for 3.1 (3.1) updates for their local versions of Xoom or just want to play with custom ROM`s and for other advantages I decided to write this post. Nothing new or unknown but it is simple summary on how to root and clockwork recovery install. As a result you will be able to use ROM manager from Market to update system or use with roms available around.
Important! This steps was tested in German T-Online version of Xoom 3G (MZ601)
But it suppose to work on any Euro version of Xoom. Caution- US versions not confirmed. The only difference is what bootloader image you need to flash on first step. You are warned! Use this at your own risk ! Warranty void!

Step 1

We need to unlock bootloader to be able to root our device.
Connect your Xoom to PC using USB cable. Install ADB on your computer if you did it already.
Unpack boot.zip (or boot 3.1 if your device have 3.1 firmware) to folder on your disk and open shell :

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock

Follow the on screen instructions!
After do next commands:

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot

Now we got unlocked bootloader and its ready for installing superuser (root) files !

Step 2

Now we installing files that are necessary for executing commands that requires root permissions.

Extract this archive to folder on your hard drive and do next steps in the command line:

adb remount
adb push su /system/bin/su
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
adb shell ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su

Now you can reboot and download from Android Market app SuperUser - that all!
Your Xoom is rooted !

Step 3

After you rooted your device and unlock bootloader it will open many interesting possibilities and now your ready to install ClockWork Recovery module that will let you install ROMs to customize or upgrade system (including 3.1 or 3.2 updates).
Boot into normal and do search Android Market for free application calling "ROM Manager".
(It won`t work without root). After you install it, start it up: Select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", select "XOOM".
Clockwork is now installed !

Now you ready to install ROMs - e.g. you can download this 3.2 update and using CWM install it - and you will get Xoom 3G with 3.2 Android Honeycomb. Same way can search and download custom ROMs.

Enjoy!

Thanks goes to Alias_neo, Droid-Xer from XDA Developers for their usefull posts!
Also lowtraxx for his wonderful Tiamatt ROM for Xoom !
